The inspiring Dane first learned of the technicality ban during a visit to the town hall of Severance, which is north of Denver. The outdated rule founded with the town was part of an old ordinance outlawing the “throwing of missiles, such as stones, at property or people”
Kyle Rietkerk, the assistant to the Severance town administrator, said
“All the kids always get blown away” when they find out was illegal to throw snowballs there, So, what ends up happening is [town leaders] always encourage the kids with, ‘You have the power you can change the law’. No one has,” he said.
Dane said he was encouraged to fight for the cause on behalf of his friends and other children. To lift the ban, Dane had to present to the local town board. During his confident three-minute presentations, he advocated for the right to have a little fun throwing snowballs saying…
“The children of Severance want the opportunity to have a snowball fight like the rest of the world, the law was created many years ago. Today’s kids need a reason to play outside.”
After the young and inspiring Dane Best’s presentation, the result was unanimous from officials, and the ban was officially lifted.
To celebrate this new winter freedom, the town’s mayor handed Dane and his four-year-old brother Dax the first legal snowballs in the town’s history.
Dane said his little brother would be his first target and that he would avoid breaking windows.
Derrick Best, Dane’s father, told CBS Denver the following: “We are proud of him for taking an initiative to make some change, no matter how small it may be,”

Heartwarming Thanksgiving Surprise Good News Story For Town Of Two
A town of two gets an extra special Thanksgiving in this heartwarming Thanksgiving surprise story from the folks at Ancestry.
When someone says the words “small town” images of an old-fashioned sleepy town with a few necessary stores a couple of hundred kind folk come to mind. Well, today, the town of Gross, Nebraska has a population is 2.
In fact, ALL of the residents of the town moved except Mary and Mike Finnegan.
And so, for the last 33 years, the Finnegans have been the town’s sole residents, keeping Gross on the map.
They operate a small restaurant, the Nebraska Inn, where they welcome travelers of all kinds—providing comfort, hospitality, and the best burger around.
Through their warmth and steadfast traditions, Mary and Mike have ensured that the spirit of Gross lives on. Coffee still costs a nickel, and anyone who dares to curse has to glue a dollar to the wall.
Word of this tiny town got back to Ancestry, a DNA test company that traces family trees. They were inspired not only to reunite them with some relatives, but they also with ancestors of the town’s founders. Making it a truly memorable,Thanksgiving where the past and present came together!
Ancestry searched its extensive historical records to create family trees. and contacted people with a connection to Gross. They set about to bringing them “home” too rediscover a piece of their family history. For some, this would be the very first time to the town of Gross.
Fifty people came home to Gross, Nebraska, for a pre-Thanksgiving celebration this year at Mike and Mary Finnegan’s restaurant, the Nebraska Inn.
The huge feast ended with Mary and Mike’s family and their new friends roasting marshmallows over a campfire and lighting sparklers.
The Finnegans’ three children and eight grandchildren were there, discovering they’re related to people they’ve known their entire lives.
“The couple was ecstatic and heart warmed that the event came to life, Mary said “Oh my goodness gracious, it’s just amazing,” she said in a phone interview. “I can’t give you any words to describe how grateful I am for that. It was just an absolutely perfect day. It expresses the importance of family, getting together, and having a place for everybody to call home and come to for holidays. I hope everyone who was there learned that important bit of information.” Ancestry

Laura and Chris Moriarity are the epitomai of the power of making the world a better place by combing imagination, heart, dedication, and compassion.
While Chris was studying at the University of Illinois’ online iMBA program, he heard two stories that became the vision of what would become the for the “Million Waves Project”.
One of those stories was about 19-year-old in the Netherlands who invented the machine that scoops up garbage in the ocean; the other about people using 3-D printers to make prosthetic limbs.
He had no expertise in ocean pollution or making prosthetic limbs—but passionately believed he could combine “Two unacceptable global situations and offers a practical and sustainable solution” with a creative and compassionate solution.
Founded on Earth Day in April 2018 Chris and Laura founded the Million Waves Project, a charity that recycles ocean plastic into 3D-printed prosthetic limbs for needy people around the world. Moriarty bought a 3-D printer, asked his wife to help him set up a website, and then set out looking for people who needed prosthetics. His family began collecting plastic washed along the ocean shore in their hometown of Anacortes, WA. 38-year-old
Currently, the couple prepares the plastic by cutting it up by hand and feeding it into a paper shredder, and then a 3D-printer. After that, they use an app to connect with people who need prosthetics so they can design the gadget specifically to their measurements.
It takes about 30 plastic bottles and 20 hours to make one limb. The cheap materials mean that each prosthetic costs roughly $45, which the Moriaritys fund through donations, sponsorships, and selling keychains on the charity’s website. \ With 3-D printing technology and plenty of plastic floating around in the ocean, his mission is to bring that number to zero.
“Every year, 28-billion pounds of plastic ends up in our ocean AND Approximately 40 million people in the developing world are in need of prosthetic limbs yet only five percent have any prosthetic options
“We can all do something. That’s really the message and the heartbeat of the whole thing,” Million Waves Project

The Man Who Carved A Road Through A Mountain To Help His Village
This is the inspiring true story of an incredible human named Dashrash Manjh.
Armed with only a hammer, chisel, and crowbar he began carving what ended up being a 30-foot wide, 25-foot-deep passage through 360 feet of the mountain.
Tirelessly Dashrash kept working for 22 years. His true story of determination and hard work is truly a reminder for all of us humans young and old to persevere!
“God has given each individual the strength to make a dent in the universe!”
– Dashrath Manjila

Dashrath Manji was a poor laborer from a small town called Gaya, in Eastern India who lived at the foothills of Gehlour hills. Because of this mountainous range, it was quite an isolated village. To reach the nearest town, one had to travel 70 km around the Gehlour Mountain.
One tragic life-changing day in 1960, Dashrath’s beloved wife Faguni Devi slipped and was injured while bringing him lunch to the farm where he worked. As there were no nearby hospitals she was not able to receive adequate medical treatment and soon died.
Dashrath was deeply hurt and saddened by his wife’s preventable death. He became determined no one else should suffer the same tragedy and resolved to build the road to make his village more accessible. He wanted his village could have easier access to medical attention at the town blocked by the mountain.
Initially, the heartbroken determined Dashrath was ridiculed by his villagers when he started hammering the hills with chisel, hammer, and shovel in his hand.. “When I started hammering the hill, people called me a lunatic but that steeled my resolve.” He would work all day at the farm and then head to the mountain to continue his mission. Slowly, people started to respect his ambition and started helping him by giving him food, water, and bought tools for him.
It took him an incredible 22 years of hard labor to carve the path into the mountain to carve the path into the mountain, changing the distance to the nearest town from 70km to 15 km! Dashrath’s dream of people to have access to doctors, jobs, education, and opportunities had come true. Since finishing the road no villager has lost their loved one due to lack of timely treatment, no children remain illiterate like Manjhi with an accessible road good school nearby.

LEGO has been combining Imagination, compassion, and innovation to create a new pilot project.
Their goal is to help visually impaired and blind children learn the Braille alphabet using the bumps on the Lego bricks as textile teaching tools.
The unique “Braille Bricks” will be specially built to replica the Braille alphabet yet remain fully compatible with the traditional Lego bricks. The bricks will also feature a printed character, allowing sighted and visually impaired to interact together.
“With thousands of audiobooks and computer programs now available, fewer kids are learning to read Braille,” Philippe Chazal, Treasurer of the European Blind Union. “
“Braille users often are more independent, have a higher level of education, and have better employment opportunities. We strongly believe LEGO Braille Bricks can help boost the level of interest in learning Braille, so we’re thrilled that the LEGO Foundation is making it possible to further this concept and bring it to children around the world,”

In this uplifting good new story – a hospital rebrands a chemotherapy treatment for children as “Superhero Serum”. Even adding the iconic logos to the bags.
Superheroes are an inspiration to many children. “Superhero Serum” was born out of compassion and serendipity. Friends between hospitals and DC. The real superheroes are not in the comics but the children and their families who are brave children who are helping battle cancer there and worldwide.
Out of serendipitous relationship the inspiration for “Superformula” was brought to life. An ad agency in Brazil and Warner Bros worked together to create an extra special series of comic books in which superhero’s go through experiences similar to those of kids with cancer, and recover their super strength.
The experience went far beyond the covers by also providing a new look to the entire Children’s Ward: the game room was turned into the Hall of Justice, corridors and doors were decorated in the same theme, and the exterior acquired an exclusive entrance for these little heroes.
Below is a 2-minute video on their amazing “Superformula”.

One Million Gardeners Unite To Protect Bees and Butterflies
Learn how Gardeners Protect Bees & Butterflies by creating habitats that foster these essential pollinators
. Engaging in this vital conservation effort, each garden added to the “One Million Gardens Initiative” becomes a sanctuary for wildlife, contributing to the health of our ecosystems and the beauty of our communities.
Over 1 million homeowners and gardeners from around the world have joined the fight to protect bees and butterflies and fight save dwindling pollinator populations – and you can join the team too.
The National Pollinator Garden Network has surpassed their goal of registered pollinator gardens with just over 1,040,000 gardens now registered with their Million Pollinator Garden Challenge.
Though most of the registered pollinator gardens are in the United States, the ambitious project has also recruited members in Canada, Mexico, and Europe. The registered spaces, most of which are comprised of private yards and public gardens, all add up to a network of approximately 5 million acres of enhanced or new pollinator habitat.
According to the National Wildlife Federation (NWF), one of the project’s partnering organizations, protecting pollinators is crucial to our food supply.
“Together, through collaborative conservation we are restoring pollinator populations that provide the foundation of our ecosystems and our food supply,” said NWF CEO Collin O’Mara. “When we save wildlife, we save ourselves.”
Want To Join?
In order to contribute to the network, gardeners are asked to plant large amounts of pollinator-friendly plants and wild grasses that are both native and non-invasive species. The space should also offer breaks from the wind, exposure to direct sunlight, a watering source, and a minimized amount of pesticides.

Cillian Jackson was born with a genetic defect that has left him with impaired motor function. Prior to December, the youngster either had to be carried in a stroller or in his parents’ arms.
When Cillian’s parents started looking for ways to give their son more mobility, they found that motorized wheelchairs can cost thousands of dollars, and their insurance would not be able to cover the costs due to Cillian’s age.
The parents got creative and Cillian’s dad reached out to his old high school’s robotics team and asked for their help. The Rogue Robotics team at Farmington High School has won multiple awards for their ingenuity; so when they were faced with a project that could make a difference in the life of a 2-year-old boy, they did not hesitate to accept the challenge.
“I think we won here more than we do in our competitions,” one high school student said. Another team member said: “Instead of completing a task, we’re helping change someone’s life.”

A Chinese emergency crew received a phone call about a man who was collecting trash and had collapsed in a residential alleyway. As their ambulance rushed through the narrow alleyways, a Golden Retriever dog popped out in front of the vehicle.
Instead of simply moving out of the ambulance’s path, however, it started to lead them in the direction of its collapsed owner.
Dashcam footage shows the dog anxiously looking over its shoulder several times in order to make sure the paramedics are following it before the pup picks up speed and runs through the maze of alleyways.

A woman who left behind a purse with $1,300 in birthday cash on a light-rail transit train says she can barely believe someone was honest enough to return it.
Li Feng Yang had just received the money for her 75th birthday and was planning to deposit it in the bank. She was taking the train to see her doctor last week when she dropped the bag on the seat beside her.
Yang realized she’d forgotten it immediately after she got off the train in downtown Calgary and the doors closed. “A rush of burning anxiety immediately came in,” she said in a statement translated by her grandson, Kai Huang.

Yang, who does not speak English, met a Chinese-speaking man by the train station. He helped her call Calgary Transit and took her to the lost property office.
Train operator Mesfin Tadese found the bag during a walk-through when the train was at the end of the line and called the office to say he’d found the bag. He handed it off to the next driver to take to the lost and found.
The next morning, Yang received word that her bag, which also contained her cellphone and bank card, had been found. She went with her son to retrieve it.
She said she was surprised and “very happy, very grateful. It was hard to believe what I see. Is there really honest people that would return my lost bag with cash in it?” she said through Huang. “Well, the undeniable truth is in front of me.”
Yang thanked Tadese in person on Tuesday. She brought him two bouquets of flowers and embraced him at a downtown train station.
“I never thought it’s a big deal like this.” Tadese said he was just doing his job. “I’m happy to see the original owner and give back the purse. I never thought it’s a big deal like this.”

The Gary Sinise Foundation is a non-profit that sends families to Disney World! The foundation focuses on veterans, first responders, and their families, has helped send almost 2,000 people from Gold Star families to Walt Disney World near Orlando, Florida.
This is all under the umbrella of the Snowball Express, which is a holiday season program that aims to help families of fallen service members.
Snowball Express started in 2006 and aims to create a five-day experience for the families that is fun, inspiring, and therapeutic. In 2017, Snowball Express became an official Gary Sinise Foundation program.
The program may be young, but through the tireless work of its supporters and members, it has quickly made an impact on participants.
A tweet from Fallen Patriots, a non-profit that focuses on helping Gold Star family members get to college, said that participant Dale Mundell now wants to fly for American Air. Which is the airline sponsoring the event, in order to help other family members take part in such events in the future.
A National Event
Airports got in on the festivities as well. The Killeen Airport, a familiar location for any service members who have activated or deployed through Fort Hood, Texas, welcomed Snowball Express participants and a man in a Santa costume met with the families.
In Nashville, other travellers stopped what they were doing and held a rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner. U.S. troops in the terminal stood at attention and saluted as the song was performed, and you can see bystanders drying their eyes in a Facebook video of the event.
Meanwhile, airport employees seem amped about the Snowball Express as well. The National Air Traffic Controllers Association sent tote bags to participants to help them get all their goods from location to location, and the controllers themselves posted photos on social media celebrating as flights took off from airfields under their control.
