Beaver Has Fun In His Human Family Home

Meet Justin Beaver, an adorable rescued  beaver who loves to build beaver damns in his family home!

JB as his family affectionatly call him, was rescued in the summer of 2017 when he was orphaned at just eight weeks old. He was fortunate to be adopted by wildlife rehabilitator Brigette Brouillard and her her loving family. Brigette is the  director of Second Chances Wildlife Center in Mt. Washington, Kentucky.

Animal Lover Brouillard cares for over 250 animals each year at Second Chances. Animals she cares for include bats, squirrels, opossums, skunks, foxes, groundhogs and other mammals.  At her family home, Justin Beaver got to join a rescued armadillo, and two skunks!

In the wild, baby beavers usually stay with their parents until around two years old. During their first year they are  and taught life skills and nutured by their parents. They learn and grow quickly, and by their  second year they are able tohelp raise their parents’ next baby.

But as JB was orphaned so young he didn’t have the chance to learn know how survive as a beave and can’t be released into the wild.

But to the Brouillard’s surprise, he taught himself to build damns, building them in Brouillard’s house. He used any materials he could find from bathroom mats, hockey shoes, even Brouillard’s laptop one time.

“He builds dams regularly,” Brouillard said. “He just gathers whatever he can find.”

You can see JB having fun in his family home in this awesome video by The Dodo. As JB grew up the Brouillard’s knew he would need a bigger body of water.  Luckily for JB they raised funds build him his own special enclosure wthat included his a private, 6-foot-deep pond!

What a happy life for JB!
