Sign Language Chart For Babies

This sign language chart for babies is a great way to start learning how to communicate with your baby using sign language.

Signing lays down a foundation for later language development and helps them understand the world around them.
It’s also a fun way to bond with your little one!

Sign language is also great for toddlers, who may not be able to talk yet but can still understand what you’re saying.  By helping them develop their communication skills, it enables them to be more confident about themselves as they gain more verbal skills.

This neat simple visual chart by Adelaide Olguin from Not An Exact Science who loves teaching the universal language of sign language. Her website is filled with great resources about how to help both babies land children communicate through learning languages, including sign language.

“Your baby is motivated to talk based on his or her needs, wants, and interests. Your baby will learn the signs she wants to use the fastest. You are the best person to choose the signs to teach your baby as you see what she needs and wants– Adelaide Olguin

It is recommended babies’ parents and caregivers start signing with your baby when he or she is six months old.
This allows them to start making associations between your gestures and their needs.

Make sure to say the word as you sign it.
Repeat the word and the sign as often as you can during the interaction; babies need repetition in order to learn.
