A Brief History of LEGO Pirates

Pirates was a lego system introduced in 1989. It focused on the classic idea of Caribbean pirates that were pitted against soldiers of colonial empires and would occasionally encounter indigenous people. Following a long hiatus starting in 1997, the theme was reintroduced in 2009, combining the established look from the past with recent LEGO elements and building styles. In 2015 six new sets were released including a chess set.

She is best known for her magical imagination which lead to creating the Harry Potter series.

Harry Potter books have sold over 450 million copies.

The franchise itself is worth over $15 billion today. JK Rowlings donates a large percentage to the many charitable causes she works with.

It Wasn’t Easy

Things by no means fell into the lap of the determined dreamer. From her, we can learn many valuable lessons about the world.

She was rejected by twelve publishers while she was a single mother living on welfare she kept her eyes on her dreams, her pen in hand and her mind determined.

“I was convinced that the only thing I wanted to do, ever, was to write novels.”

In The Beginning…

Rowling conceived the idea of Harry Potter in 1990 while sitting on a delayed train from Manchester to London King’s Cross. Over the next five years, she began to map out all seven books of the series.

She wrote mostly in longhand and gradually built up a mass of notes, many of which were scribbled on odd scraps of paper.

She would bring the first three chapters with her to Portugal where she went to teach English. After falling in love, becoming a mother and then separating she returned to England where she would continue writing.

No Turning Back

Rowling’s first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, was published. The children’s fantasy novel became an international hit. Rowling became an international literary sensation in 1999 when the first three instalments of Harry Potter took over the top three slots of The New York Times best-seller list after achieving similar success in her native United Kingdom.

The series has sold more than 450 million copies and was adapted into a blockbuster film franchise.

Today, the Harry Potter franchise has earned $15 billion and is a world-wide brand. Rowling has won many awards and prizes for the series and her other literary works. And above all, she has won billions of hearts.

Ever wondered what 1200 smiling humans holding onto mattresses falling in line like dominos looked like? Watch it in action out with this officially funny world record!

Aaron’s Inc., an appliance and electronics company in the US, broke the record for the Largest human mattress dominoes with 1,200 participants at the Gaylord Resort and Conference Center in National Harbor, Maryland, USA. Taking place of their annual manager’s meeting.

Recorded by Guinness World Records, the feat was accomplished on its first try and took 13 minutes and 38 seconds.

This old-school Walt Disney animation from the Silly Symphony series tells the classic fable of The Tortoise & The Hare.

Silly Symphony is a series of 75 animated short films produced by Walt Disney Productions from 1929 to 1939. As their name implies, the Silly Symphonies were originally intended as whimsical accompaniments to pieces of music. As such, the films usually had independent continuity and did not feature continuing characters.

The Tortoise meanwhile kept going slowly but steadily, and, after a time, passed the place where the Hare was sleeping…

Ever come across an oddly spelled town name and wonder how you would pronounce it? Welcome to the small Welsh village “Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch” in Whales.

Watch in amazement as Welsh weatherman Liam Dutton seamlessly pronounces this unusual 58 letter town name. Local Residents may not get a lot of mail with a town name like that, but we bet it’s a nice quiet close-knit community.

The longest town name in Canada “Pekwachnamaykoskwaskwaypinwanik Lake“  seems short in comparison with only 31 letters. The small lakeside town in northeastern Manitoba name is Cree for “where the wild trout are caught by fishing with hooks.”
