How Jelly Beans Are Made

Learn How Jelly Beans Are Made with this “sweet” behind the scenes video

From mixing syrup to molding, sugar-coating, and polishing, you’ll discover just how much goes into creating these cheerful little treats. It’s a fun and fascinating peek inside the candy factory that brings jelly beans to life!

Behind The Scenes Of Jellybeans

Ever wondered how those vibrant, chewy jelly beans come to life?

Let’s take a behind-the-scenes look at how these sweet treats go from sugary syrup to the colorful candy we all love! 🍬

The journey begins with a simple mix of sugar, corn syrup, and starch, heated into a thick, gooey base. Flavors and colors are added depending on the jelly bean type—whether it’s watermelon, cotton candy, or tutti-frutti!

From there, the mixture is poured into bean-shaped molds using a method called starch mogul molding. After drying, the jelly beans are sugar-panned—a process where they’re rotated in giant drums while layers of sugar are added. This is how they get their signature hard shell and satisfying crunch. 😋

Finally, they’re polished using confectioner’s glaze, which gives them that irresistible shine and smooth finish. ✨

Jelly beans are a favorite Easter candy, but they’re loved year-round by kids and adults alike. In fact, it can take up to 14 days to create just one jelly bean—talk about dedication to sweetness!

🍬 Did You Know? Over 16 billion jelly beans are produced just for Easter each year—enough to circle the globe more than three times!

Jelly beans are more than just candy—they’re tiny edible works of art! 🎨

Each one is crafted with care, coated in layers of color, and polished to perfection. From their bright, shiny shells to their sweet, chewy centers, jelly beans are like miniature masterpieces—made to be admired and enjoyed!

Sweet Fun Facts About Jellybeans

🍬It can take anywhere from 7 to 14 days to make a jelly bean.

🍬 In the early 20th century, “jelly bean” was a slang term for a man who dressed stylishly.

🍬 Over 16 billion jelly beans are made for Easter. That’s enough jelly beans to circle our Earth 3 times!

Celebrate National Popcorn Day

Celebrate National Popcorn Day

Celebrate National Popcorn Day

Celebrate National Popcorn Day annually observed on January 19th with a short history of popcorn followed by an infographic with 7 fun facts about popcorn!

Popcorn becomes a “pop-ular!” snack!

Popcorn started becoming popular in the United States in the middle 1800s. It wasn’t until Charles Cretors, a candy-store owner, developed a machine for popping corn with steam.

The convenient savoury snack became more abundantly poppable and  by 1900 he had horse-drawn popcorn wagons going through the streets of Chicago.

“Buy Me Some Peanuts & Cracker Jacks…”

At about the same time, Louise Ruckheim added peanuts and molasses to popcorn to bring Cracker Jack to the world.  The national anthem of baseball was born in 1908 when Jack Norworth and Albert Von Tilzer wrote Take Me out to the Ballgame. From that point onward, popcorn, specifically, Cracker Jack, became forever married to the game.

Popcorn And A Movie?

Popcorn has another romance that may have had a slow start but eventually took off. Today, who can imagine going to the movies without getting a box of buttered popcorn?

While popcorn itself was an economical choice for snack food, the expense of installing a machine and venting the building properly didn’t seem worth the effort.  If it weren’t for Glen W. Dickson, we would be purchasing our popcorn from a vendor on the street before taking in the show. Dickson put in the effort and expense of placing machines inside his theatres. After realizing how quickly he recouped his costs, other theatre owners followed suit.

Microwave Popcorn Arrives!

The next significant advancement for popcorn was the invention of the microwave.

Magnetrons, a technology produced by Raytheon Manufacturing Corporation for the military during World War II, were later used to develop microwave ovens. Percy Spencer the inventor of the microwave used popcorn as a primary experiment during the microwave’s development.

Highly adaptable with a good sense of humor glaciologist and astrobiologist Cyprien Verseux is spreading some smiles to the world by showcasing just how cold it is by cooking outside in the extreme environment.

Cyprien and his fellow small team of 13 including scientists, technicians, a cook, and a doctor live alone at the base in the depths of an Antarctic winter where even bacteria cannot survive.

It is the coldest area on Earth, with temperatures reaching below -80°C in winter!

“Nine months a year, during the winter, it cannot be left or reached,” Cyprien told Bored Panda.

“It is so cold that vehicles can’t come and go. We are currently 13 people: technicians, scientists, a cook, and a medical doctor. “We run out of fresh food early in the winter (as we have no resupply from early February to early November), so we eat mostly frozen food: given that the temperatures never are in the positive, we just store it in containers outside.”
