What Movies Actually Look Like

What Movies Actually Look Like

What Movies Actually Look Like

Once upon a time, CGI was reserved for fantasy and science fiction films. It’s quickly becoming the centerpiece for films of all genres. Some have argued it cheapens the medium, especially now we live in an age where a lot of films are made around showcasing digital effects, and not the other way around.

Still, digital effects are an ever blooming industry and have arguably made many brilliant films possible. We’ve all sat in awe at some of the impressive feats of animators and the limits they push.

Walt Disney – The Multi-Plane Camera

Walt Disney – The Multi-Plane Camera

Walt Disney – The Multi-Plane Camera

Invented by tech-savvy William Garity in 1937 for Walt Disney Studios, The multiplane camera gave viewers the illusion of depth in animated motion pictures.

Before the multiplane camera, animators found it difficult to create a successful tracking shot using traditional animation methods that were expensive and time-consuming. The multiplane camera answered this problem by creating a realistic sense of three-dimensional depth in a cartoon setting. The multiplane camera also made way for new types of special effects in animated films, such as moving water and flickering light

Learn how it helped shaped Disney’s animation from Walt Disney himself in this footage from an episode of an old series called Disneyland from 1957 and see it demonstrated in the Disney classic “Bambi” In the video below.

Inside Krispy Kreme Donuts

Inside Krispy Kreme Donuts

Take a sweet behind-the-scenes tour inside a Krispy Kreme shop where the famously good glazed doughnuts are made!

We highly suggest grabbing a donut or something sweet at least before watching this!

HIT OF HISTORY: Krispy Kreme opened its doors on July 13, 1937, Vernon Rudolph bought a secret yeast-raised doughnut recipe from a New Orleans French chef.

He rented a building in what is now historic Old Salem North Carolina and began selling its Krispy Kreme doughnuts to local grocery stores. The delicious scents of cooking doughnuts drifted into the streets.

Passersby stopped to ask if they could buy hot doughnuts. So he cut a hole in an outside wall and started selling Original Glazed doughnuts directly to customers on the sidewalk. That special secret yeast recipe remains a Krispy Kreme secret ingredient to this day!

“FUN. FRESH. AND WARM. We make our Original Glazed Doughnut the way we always have.”

Invention Cleans Our Oceans

Invention Cleans Our Oceans

Invention That Cleans Our Oceans

Learn about the amazing boy who invented the incredible machine that helps clean our oceans in this inspiring story!

As a teen, Boyan Slat was scuba diving in Greece and was shocked to see more plastic than fish floating around in the ocean. Amazed that no one made an attempt to fight pollution, he founded ‘The Ocean Cleanup’

Six years ago, the technology was only an idea presented at a TEDx talk. Boyan Slat, the 18-year-old presenter, had learned that cleaning up the tiny particles of plastic in the ocean could take nearly 80,000 years.

Because of the volume of plastic spread through the water, and because it is constantly moving with currents, trying to chase it with nets would be a losing proposition.

Slat instead proposed using that movement as an advantage: With a barrier in the water, he argued, the swirling plastic could be collected much more quickly.
Then it could be pulled out of the water and recycled.

In 2013, Slat founded the non-profit entity The Ocean Cleanup, of which he is now the CEO. The Ocean Cleanup’s mission is to develop advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. After the foundation, The Ocean Cleanup managed to raise $2.2 million through a crowdfunding campaign with the help of 38,000 donors from 160 countries.

Since The Ocean Cleanup started, the organization has raised $31.5 million USD in donations from entrepreneurs in Europe and in Silicon Valley, including Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce.

“By developing new designs, Boyan Slat estimates that half of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch will be gone within 5 years, at minimal costs. The project will start with one system in mid-2018 and progressively make use of additional systems until it achieves full-scale deployment by 2020.” – Wikipedia

n Hollywood, everything is magic and make-believe, even sounds.
When you watch a film that immerses you completely in its world, you’re probably hearing the work of sound artists.

If the work is done right, you won’t be able to tell that the “natural” sounds on screen are manufactured with studio props. That’s the challenge for Warner Bros. Foley artists Alyson Moore, Chris Moriana, and mixer Mary Jo Lang.
