Hans Zimmer born 12 September 1957) is a German film score composer and record producer. Since the 1980s, he has composed music for over 150 films. His works include The Lion King, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Original Score in 1995, the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Interstellar, Gladiator, Inception and The Dark Knight Trilogy.
Although he is considered music genius having composed more than 150 film soundtracks, he had only two weeks of formal music education, having piano lessons as a child, as he disliked the discipline of formal lessons. “My father died when I was just a child, and I escaped somehow into the music and music has been my best friend”, he said in an interview with the German television station ZDF in 2006.
Zimmer spent the early part of his career in the United Kingdom before moving to the United States. He is the head of the film music division at DreamWorks studios and works with other composers through the company that he founded, Remote Control Productions, formerly known as Media Ventures. His studio in Santa Monica, California has an extensive range of computer equipment and keyboards, allowing demo versions of film scores to be created quickly.
Zimmer’s works are notable for integrating electronic music sounds with traditional orchestral arrangements. He has received four Grammy Awards, three Classical BRIT Awards, two Golden Globes, and an Academy Award. He was also named on the list of Top 100 Living Geniuses, published by The Daily Telegraph. Rube Goldberg was an inventor, an engineer, and a sculptor and multi-award-winning cartoonist who drew incredible and amusing contraptions. His Rube Goldberg machines live on to this day in physics classes and popular media. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1948 for his editorial cartoon “Peace Today which conveyed a warning against atomic weapons.
Rube Goldberg was born to Jewish parents on July 4, 1883 in San Fransisco. He began drawing at a young age, to such an extent that his parents arranged professional drawing lessons for him at the age of 11. His father encouraged him to study engineering and he earned a degree from the University of California in 1904. He took a job designing sewer pipes for the San Francisco Sewer Department
A few months later he became a sportswriter and cartoonist for the San Francisco Chronicle and the San Francisco Bulletin. He also briefly worked for the New York Evening Mail, creating three long-running comic strips. His most popular drawings depicted complex gadgets that performed even the simplest tasks in convoluted, elaborate ways, known as Rube Goldberg machines.
Rube was fascinated by the advancement of technology and thought it humorous as people either embraced change and the benefits technology brought or were reluctant as it seemingly increased dependency and laziness. He personally believed people preferred choosing a more difficult route instead of completing a goal simply and directly.
As he said, “the machines are a symbol of man’s capacity for exerting maximum effort to achieve minimal results”
His inventions were interesting as he did the complete opposite of what most machines do – instead of making difficult things easy, he made easy things difficult. On his “Rube Goldberg Machine” work, he would spend over 30 hours on each piece with close attention to precision regarding the lines and details. n his cartoons, they were created by a character called Professor Lucifer Gorgonzola Butts.
The National Cartoonists Society, in which Goldberg was the first president, named the Rueben Award in his honour, to recognize the “Cartoonist of the Year”.He also received several awards from the National Cartoonists Society including the Gold T-Square Award in 1955, the 1969 Rueben Award and the Gold Key Award, after his death in 1970. To further add to this list of accomplishments, he won the Banshee’s Silver Lady Award in 1959, he was a co-founder of the Famous Artists School , President of the Artists and Writers Club and a member of the Society of Illustrators. To this day high schools and universities worldwide, there are Rube Goldberg contests which challenge students to create intricate machines to do easy tasks
“I do not count the years. Tomorrow is just another day to create something I hope will be worthwhile.” Rube Goldberg

Mark Tatulli is a comic strip writer/artist, animator, and television producer, known for his work on the cable reality television series Trading Spaces and A Wedding Story, for which he has won three Emmy Awards. Tatulli began drawing in elementary school, where his cartoons first appeared in the school’s newspaper.
After trying unsuccessfully to promote eight different strips over a decade, his first comic strip was Bent Halos, which features two angels named Harold and Mort who achieve little success in their attempted roles as guardian angels. Liō, which has been published since May 2006, is a “sweetly dark” pantomime cartoon without dialogue that was inspired by Tatulli’s love of the horror movies he watched while growing up as a child in the 1970s.
The title character is a “weird little boy” who inhabits a world occupied by aliens, monsters, robots, and other strange characters. According to Tatulli, he came up with the name “Lio” because he “wanted a simple name to go with the simple, wordless concept. Just three letters.” In 2012, Tatulli released Lio: There’s a Monster in My Socks, a book compiling comic strips from the first year that the cartoon was distributed, with a focus on those strips that would most appeal to children. In 2009 Tatulli was recognized as “Best Comic Strip” by the National Cartoonists Society

Eric Carle is beloved as the creator of brilliantly illustrated picture books for very young children.
His best-known work, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” has eaten its way into the hearts of literally millions of children all over the world and has been translated into 64 languages and sold over 46 million copies.
Since it’s publishing in 1969, Eric Carle has illustrated more than seventy books, many best sellers, most of which he also wrote, and more than 145 million copies of his books have sold around the world.
Carle was born in Syracuse, New York, Carle moved to his father’s native Stuttgart when he was 6 years old, and spent his formative years in Nazi Germany. “Hitler dictated not only politics,” Carle tells Weekend Edition Saturday host Scott Simon, “he also dictated art.”Under the Third Reich, the only acceptable art was realistic and didactic, removed from the so-called “degenerate” trends of abstraction and Modernism.
But, in an act of resistance, Carle’s high school art teacher invited the young creative to his home to show him illegal reproductions of Cubist, Surrealist, and Impressionist art. Carle can’t recall exactly what he saw, but he thinks that’s where he saw expressionist Franz Marc’s Blue Horse. That visit and those reproductions made a deep impression on me,” he says. Marc’s Blue Horse even makes an appearance in the back of Carle’s new book.
It’s an iconic image, he says, regularly shown as a symbol of expressionism. Carle hopes blue horses show his young readers that in art, there is no wrong color.
“One must not stay within the lines,” he says. The point is to just enjoy color — but also to be surprised. Seeing a green lion or a polka-dotted donkey is still a bit of a shock, he says. “So in a small way, I repeat the shock I went through, I think. Of course, I’m not too sure it will work that way.”
Eager to return to the United States, Carle began working as a graphic designer for the New York Times in 1952, before being drafted into the army during the Korean War.
About a decade later, Carle’s career took a turn. He designed a poster of a red lobster, an advertisement for a pharmaceutical company, which caught the attention of children’s author Bill Martin Jr. The writer commissioned him to illustrate “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? “ (1967), and the rest is history.
From then on, Carle wrote and illustrated his own bedtime tales, including “1, 2, 3 to the Zoo” (1968) and the fan favorite, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”(1969).
Carle has maintained an instantly recognizable style of college. He begins by painting white tissue paper with acrylic paint, and stores these swatches in color-coded drawers in his studio. He then cuts them to shape and layers the pieces to create grouchy ladybugs, purple cats, and beautiful butterflies. Carle loves that his signature technique is accessible. “In fact, some children have said to me, ‘Oh, I can do that,’” Carle said. “I consider that the highest compliment.”
In 2002, Carle and his wife opened the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, Massachusetts, which presents exhibitions on Beatrix Potter, E. H. Shepard, Ludwig Bemelmans, and Quentin Blake, among others. The world lost a very talented & inspiring human when he passed in 2021.
“We have eyes, and we’re looking at stuff all the time, all day long. And I just think that whatever our eyes touch should be beautiful, tasteful, appealing, and important.” Eric Carle
His legacy will live on in his wonderful books. Watch a neat look at the amazing Eric Carle in the video below!

FUN FACT: The term doppelganger is a German word meaning “double-goer”. To have a doppelganger simply means having a look-alike or twin, although according to many traditions, a doppelganger is a sign of a paranormal phenomenon. The term could be used in a completely neutral manner, but most of the time a doppelganger signifies the presence of an evil twin or some other dark mischief. SOURCE SO BAD SO GOOD

The Far Side is a single-panel comic created by Gary Larson and syndicated by Universal Press Syndicate, which ran from January 1, 1980, to January 1, 1995, when Larson retired as a cartoonist
Its surrealistic humor is often based on uncomfortable social situations, improbable events, an anthropomorphic view of the world, logical fallacies, impending bizarre disasters, (often twisted) references to proverbs or the search for meaning in life. Larson’s frequent use of animals and nature in the comic is popularly attributed to his background in biology. Reruns are still printed in many newspapers.
The Far Side was ultimately carried by more than 1,900 daily newspapers, translated into 17 languages, and collected into calendars, greeting cards, and 23 compilation books. SOURCE WIKIPEDIA

Bob Ross, the painter, and television personality was an endearing, soothing, and extremely prolific artist who purportedly completed 30,000 paintings during his lifetime. What made this especially likable and talented painter truly different is that he truly believed that all of us could also be artists.
Ross’s gentle voice and warm demeanor captured the hearts of humans of all ages and artists of all levels worldwide. Bob spent 20 years in the United States Air Force and retired with the rank of master sergeant before transitioning into the happy painter we know today. He is quoted as saying “after yelling so much in the Air Force; he never wanted to yell at anyone again.”
As Robert Frost famously said “Way leads unto Way” and the Alaskan Mountains where he was stationed became iconic features in his paintings. While stationed there Ross indulged his creative side by painting his landscapes onto golden pans, which he sold for $25 each. Today, they can fetch as much as $7500 on eBay.
One of Bob Ross’s biggest influences was a German painter named Bill Alexander who hosted an art instruction show on PBS “The Magic of Oil Painting. He shared his “wet-on-wet” oil painting technique. Ross ended up studying under Alexander, who became his mentor in the early 1980s, and as Alexander was preparing to retire, he asked Ross to take over teaching his painting classes. Ross agreed and set out to tour the country on his own in a motor home, traveling and teaching people.
One of his students Annette Kowalski recognized his gentle and powerful positivity while taking a five-day instructional course with Ross in 1982. She became Ross’s manager, helping him broker the deal for The Joy of Painting television show with PBS. Despite its incredible popularity Bob Ross did the series for free, while his income came from Bob Ross Inc. which sold art supplies and how-to videotapes, taught classes, and even had a troupe of traveling art instructors who roamed the world teaching painting.
It’s been nearly 25 years since the sincere, gentle and very talented Bob Ross passed. His encouraging artistic mentor style continues to spread smiles and inspiration to artists of all ages. Below is just a few of some of his many magical quotes and a classic clip from his show. SOURCES MENTAL FLOSS, WIKIPEDIA & BIOGRAPHY

“Everything I do is an experiment. If the picture I make is good or not is of little importance in comparison to what I have learned.
