BONUS JOKE: What is the best pet for daylight savings time?
ANSWER: A watchdog.

History Of Daylight Savings

Curious about the history of Daylight Savings?

Daylight Savings has long been one of the most confusing “times” of the year. 🌞

Daylight savings, (often abbreviated as DST) was created over 100 years ago as a way to make better use of daylight.

The idea was to advance the clock by one hour so that there is more sunlight in the evening and less in the morning. 🕰️

This entertaining educational video was created by CGP Grey, and breaks it down in a fun way.

If you’re looking for a well-written explanation of daylight savings time National Geographic For Kids has more information on their website here.

“When updating legislation in the 1980s, Congress noted that daylight saving time has many benefits, including “more daylight outdoor playtime for the children and youth of our Nation.” National Geographic.

Why Do We Have Seasons?

Why Do We Have Seasons?

Why Do We Have Seasons?

Ever wonder why we have seasons?

This fun educational science video for kids explains how the tilt of our planet affects Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring and why different parts of the world experience them at different times! ❄️☀️

 Seasons Explained for Kids!

Did you know that our planet tilts on its axis, an invisible line it spins around?

Instead of standing straight up, Earth leans slightly—about 23.5 degrees! 🌍

This tilt affects how much sunlight different parts of the world receive throughout the year.

☀️ Summer – When a part of the Earth tilts toward the Sun, it gets more direct sunlight, making the days longer and warmer.
❄️ Winter – When a part of the Earth tilts away from the Sun, it gets less direct sunlight, making the days shorter and colder.
🍂 Fall & Spring – During these seasons, neither hemisphere tilts directly toward or away from the Sun, creating mild temperatures and equal day and night lengths!

Why Do Some Places Have Extreme Seasons?

Not every place experiences seasons the same way! 🌍

🏝️ Near the Equator – Countries along the equator (like Brazil or Kenya) get lots of direct sunlight all year, so their temperatures stay warm with little seasonal change.
❄️ Near the Poles – Places farther from the equator (like Canada or Sweden) have bigger seasonal changes, with super cold, dark winters and long, bright summers!

Why Do Seasons Matter?

Seasons affect weather, animals, and even people!

🐦 Some animals migrate or hibernate to survive different seasons.
🌸 Plants bloom in spring and shed leaves in fall to adapt to changes.
🧥 People wear coats in winter and shorts in summer to stay comfy!

Understanding how the Earth’s tilt creates seasons helps us appreciate the amazing changes happening around us!

Renewable Sources of Energy Explained For Kids

Have you ever wondered what are renewable sources of energy and how they keep the world running? ⚡

This fun and educational video explains sources of energy in a way that kids can easily understand!

Energy Explained For Kids

We use energy every day for lights, transportation, and technology, but not all sources of energy are the same!

Some, like solar and wind power, are renewable energy sources, meaning they never run out.

Others, like coal and petroleum, are non-renewable energy sources and can cause pollution when used.

Understanding these energy sources helps us make better choices for the planet!

Renewable vs. Non-Renewable Energy 🌱⚡

🌞 Renewable Energy Sources: Come from natural sources that never run out!

Examples Of Renewable Energy Include:

☀️ Solar Energy
Power from the sun!
💨 Wind Energy
Uses wind turbines to create electricity!
🌊 Hydropower
Water movement that generates energy!
🌋 Geothermal Energy
Heat from inside the Earth
🌱 Biomass Energy
Energy from plants and organic waste!

🔥 Non-Renewable Energy Sources: These can run out over time and may cause pollution:

Examples Of Non-Renewable Energy Include:

⛏️ Coal
A fossil fuel used for power but produces CO₂.
⛽ Petroleum & Gas
Used for fuel, but limited supply!
⚛️ Nuclear Energy
Powerful but needs special handling!

Why Are Sources of Energy Important? 🌎

Energy is essential, but choosing cleaner energy sources helps protect our environment. 🌱

Scientists and engineers are always looking for ways to improve how we use energy to create a better future.

💡 Fun Fact: Did you know the word energy comes from the Greek word “energeia,” meaning “activity or operation”? 🤯

How Do Trees Survive The Winter?

How Do Trees Survive The Winter?

How Do Trees Survive

Have you ever wondered how do trees survive the winter when the world turns icy cold? ❄️

While humans bundle up in warm coats, trees have their own clever ways to stay alive through freezing temperatures!

This kid-friendly science video from MinuteEarth explains the fascinating ways trees adapt to winter’s chill. 🌳

Teach Kids About WInter

The Science Behind How Trees Survive The Winter

Long ago, all trees grew in warm, tropical climates. ☀️

But as the Earth changed, trees evolved new tricks to survive in freezing temperatures.

Their biggest challenges? Keeping water moving inside their trunks and protecting their leaves from frost! ❄️

Some trees, like evergreens, solve this problem with thick, waxy needles full of natural antifreeze, helping them stay green all winter. 🌲

Others, like maples and oaks, take a different approach—dropping their leaves entirely! 🍂

Without leaves, they lose less water and avoid damage from freezing ice crystals.

How do trees survive the winter? By combining these unique adaptations, trees can handle even the harshest winters and thrive year after year. 🌳

Perfect For Curious Kids & Classrooms!

This educational video is a fantastic way to introduce young learners to winter tree adaptations. 💙
